Miss Tenacity: The Podcast?

August 16, 2019 Glory / Podcast / Trail Running / Ultrarunning / WomenLeave a comment

Miss Tenacity, as part of my own personality, was born out of a love of trails. And the idea of tenacity has grown, as we all have, into something more expansive and embracing. This kind of tenacity is about women who run trails and often run really dang long trails. …

A few weeks ago I was running down a trail with a friend new to the amazing world of trail pounding. And then, they pounded. Caught a rock with their toe and landed with their ankle on another rock. Oof, and there goes a few ligaments. We got back to …

Sunshine And Bunny Rabbits: Why Trails Are Therapy Until They’re Not

July 9, 2019 Coaching / Psychology / Trail Running / UltrarunningLeave a comment

The tongue-in-cheek bumper stickers and t-shirts are clear: running and hiking are a direct substitute for therapy. Is this true? I’d say . . . sort of. Maybe. Rarely. Here’s why: if I were to categorize running as therapy, it is akin to psychoanalysis. Wait, what? Hear me out. In …

5 Things You Need To Know About Running 100 Miles In A Day

October 5, 2018 Guts / Psychology / Trail Running / Ultrarunning5 Comments

It was Sunday, 10 in the morning, in the vicinity of the finish line of the Stagecoach 100 mile race. I was not functioning well as a human person. “Hey, I couldn’t find you!” said Geoff after I’d wandered off for another unplanned nap in the back of the enormous …

42 Miles: That Day I Ran Across The Grand Canyon, Twice, On Purpose

March 30, 2018 Guts / Trail RunningLeave a comment

The first time I ran across the Grand Canyon and back, it put me in its mouth like a fresh piece of bubblegum, swallowed me whole, let me bathe in digestive acids, regurgitated me back up its canal, chewed me a little more, blew a bubble, popped the bubble, then …

Griffith Park: My Backyard Trail

March 15, 2018 Los Angeles / Trail Running / UltrarunningOne Comment

“Ugh. Griffith? I am so over Griffith.” So sayeth hundreds of trail runners, all over Los Angeles. And I get it, to a point. The horse trails dotted with grassy chunks of poo and, on drier days, the dusty aroma of said chunks. The throngs of families out for strolls …

When life gives you antlers… You take them and s When life gives you antlers… You take them and stuff them in hydration pack and hope they don't fall out 🦌❤️

I thought a lot in the last few weeks about getting older. This is not something I think about frequently ... I have had the fortune of looking and feeling younger than my years but I am coming to terms with some fear that that might be changing as the sun and other things start catching up with me. More silver on my head, more bulging leg veins, more crepey skin... it's ME and my lived body. Hope I get my heart to really feel this earned place. 🌼🙏🏻🔮

Today's belated birthday run was a success, 47K for my 47th. Warm and sandy and good snacks later. All in a new place to me—Kanab. Thanks to new frenz for trail beta @lifeisatraverse

"Every runner has the same finish line: death." S "Every runner has the same finish line: death."

So begins the greatest running book of the last decade... by a mile. Possibly the greatest athlete philosophy book of the last generation.

Megan and David build runners out of unconditional love, tacos, puppies, and death. And it works.

Dark and light always cycle. Cold and warm ebb and Dark and light always cycle. Cold and warm ebb and flow. At twilight we trust that the sun will return. Why would it be any different with our own bodies? With our emotions? Over and over again I am invited to see the inherent cycles in ev. ry. thing. Invited to trust the cycle. To seek and find healing and rest in the dark. Because the light will return and you can take it in with curiosity and resilience. And love.

When you get the chance to make magic in the snow, When you get the chance to make magic in the snow, even in your own front yard, even if no one might see it, even though the sun is getting busy melting your creation.

None of that matters. Being silly as a kid matters. Making yourself grin matters.
